What we fit
This is a fit-only service: you choose and buy the gates, locks and guards that suit your home, and we fit them. A gate is only as secure as what it is fixed to, so most of the work is the fixing.
A gate at the top of the stairs
Always screw-fitted into something solid, never pressure-fitted.
A gate at the bottom or in a doorway
Pressure-fit is fine here, and we will say which suits each opening.
Banisters and newel posts
Clamp-on banister and spindle kits, so original timber is not drilled.
Wide or awkward openings
Extensions and bespoke fixings for openings a standard gate will not span.
Anti-tip furniture anchoring
Tall drawers, wardrobes and bookcases strapped or bracketed to the wall.

Fitted so windows open enough to ventilate but not enough to climb out.

We fit pressure-fit and screw-fit stair gates, extra-wide and bespoke openings, banister and spindle kits, furniture anti-tip straps and brackets, window restrictors, cupboard and appliance catches, guards and blind cord safety devices, into masonry, lath and plaster and plasterboard.
Same visit, other jobs: assembling cots and nursery furniture, putting shelves up out of reach, securing pictures and mirrors, or fitting new blinds.
What it costs
Labour only, charged by time, and you supply the products. A screw-fit gate on a sound newel post is usually a half-hour to one-hour job. Several gates, locks and guards in one visit are charged as one block of time rather than separate jobs.
The top of the stairs
A gate at the top of a flight must always be screw-fitted. A pressure-fit gate is held only by tension and can be pushed out, which is exactly the wrong failure at the top of the stairs.
So we screw-fix it into the newel post and the wall opposite, finding the stud or packing out behind a skirting or dado rail where the fixing point is not flat.
Then we check the gate is level, latches cleanly every time and cannot be lifted off. A gate that swings or latches badly because it was rushed is worse than no gate.
Where we cover
We cover all London boroughs plus the TW, KT, CR and BR postcode areas. Victorian and Edwardian terraces have original turned newels and lath and plaster beside the stairs, mansion blocks have solid masonry, and new-build flats have plasterboard on a metal or timber frame, and each takes a different fixing. Engineers cross central London by motorcycle and scooter, which means faster arrival and easier parking.

Families moving into a rental often need gates, restrictors and anchored furniture fitted before day one, and want it done without damaging the property.
Banister kits clamp on rather than drilling original timber, and screw holes in walls are kept to what the fixing actually needs.

Reading the wall and the stair
Standard gate cups are designed for a flat surface, and a turned banister rarely gives one, so we use a clamp-on spindle kit instead.
A plug in lath and plaster crumbles, so we find the timber behind it. In plasterboard we find the stud or use the correct cavity fixing.
Where spindles are too widely spaced or a newel post is loose, we say so before fitting, because the gate is only as strong as what holds it.
