Burn marks or a smell mean heat where there should not be any. Made safe, then replaced.

Nothing at that point but the rest of the ring fine, traced back along the circuit.
A worn or cracked light switch
A switch that has gone loose, sticky or cracked, swapped for a new one.
Upgrade to a USB or USB-C socket

Fit a dimmer switch
The right dimmer for the load, so LEDs dim smoothly instead of flickering or buzzing.
Single to double sockets

What it costs
Labour only, charged by time. Parts are on top and you get an estimate before we start. A single faceplate takes minutes, so several in the same visit is much better value.

Period conversions rarely have enough sockets where you actually need them, which is why extra points and USB upgrades are such common calls. The regulations that apply
Replacing a socket or a switch is minor electrical work. Adding a new socket must still meet BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations, under Part P of the Building Regulations.
Work in a kitchen or bathroom zone may be notifiable, and anything we add is tested before it goes into use.
